Types of Chemical Reactions:

* Synthesis:     A  +  X --->  AX

     (2 or more things yields ONE COMPOUND)

* Decomposition:  AX --->  A  +  X

     (ONE COMPOUND yields two or more things)

* Single Replacement:  A  +  BX  --->  AX  +  B

     (One element and one compound yields a DIFFERENT element and a DIFFERENT compound)

* Double Replacement:  AX  +  BY  --->  AY  +  BX

     (The second halves of each compound switch places)

* Combustion:  X  +  O2  --->  (Y)  +  H2O

     (One of the reactants will ALWAYS be Oxygen, and one of the products will ALWAYS be Water)
