English II - World Literature/English III - American Literature:

We are going to take what you know, extend on that knowledge, and advance your thinking process for the purpose of understanding what you read and how to reflect on it by building on the skills you have learned thus far in your English classes. Our goal is to become more independent in your learning through reading, writing, research, discussions, presentations, and active listening to resonate critical thinking. We will not only read but connect it to the world we live in today and determine how our and other cultures have been shaped through the written and spoken word.

Classroom procedures:

You will enter the classroom quietly, with an open mind, and an attitude that prepares you for learning.

If you choose to take your phone out, it will be placed in the phone holder at the front of the room.  If you fail to keep it put away and/or take it from its designated location, it will be taken to the front office where it will cost you $15 to get back. You should be seated by the time the tardy bell rings English II will be working on the warmup, and English III should be ready with your SSR book out on your desk (when not scheduled to read the novel that day). This book will need to be available daily for sustained silent reading that will be the first ten minutes of class.

Assignments:

For each nine weeks, you will be given a minimum of fifteen daily grades and three test grades, each worth 50% of your total nine week’s grade. Quizzes will be worth two daily grades. Assignments will be submitted in various ways to include:  paper, Canvas, other digital media, verbally, journals, and any other tangible products produced in/out of class individually or as a group. If you use your time wisely and do your best, you will be successful in my class.  If you do not finish your assignments in class, you will take it home for homework. Occasionally, you may have homework. This is what your Academic period and tutorials are for, to help you keep up with your work.

Restroom Policies:

Pass is how you will be traveling the halls this year. If you would like to go to the restroom, another class, any other place, you will request permission via the app using your Chromebook and leave your phone in the phone holder at the front of the room. If you do not leave your phone, you will not receive permission to leave. All of this will be explained in further detail during your Academic periods.

How to be successful in this class:

You will be ready to learn!

You will keep an open mind!

You will treat everyone with respect!

You will do your work on time for full credit!

You will use your own brain without cheating or plagiarizing!

You will get HELP when needed!

Late Work:

You lose ten points each day an assignment is late for the first three days.  After five days, you earned a zero and the assignment will no longer be accepted. Please plan ahead if you know you’ll be absent. You will receive one day extra for each day you are absent.

Makeup/Retakes:

You are responsible for missed work, especially for those of you participating in extracurricular activities. You will not have time during class to make up work, utilize Academic and tutorials. Lesson Plans will be posted in Canvas and updated weekly.

If you fail an assignment, you may retake or correct it within five school days for up to a 70 and needs to be completed during tutorials for which you will need to schedule with me. No graded papers will be sent home until the end of the nine weeks.

What you get out of this class will be determined by what you put into it.

There will be extra credit available. One opportunity per nine weeks for 10 test points.
