Key to Ms. Romine’s Class:

Students are expected to come to class prepared and ready to learn. It is vital that students participate in class and ask questions when help is needed. It is also vital that students complete all assignments to the best of their ability.

Required Assignments:

There will be a minimum of 3 summative and 15 formative grades each grading period. Summative grades can include test, projects, and/or interactive notebook checks. Formative grades can include daily assignments, quizzes, lab assignments, and homework. Homework is given at the discretion of the teacher. Students should be prepared to receive a homework assignment each day.

Test Review:

There will be a review before every test. Depending on how much time is available, the test review may take place in class or may be a take home version to be completed at home. Test reviews will not be taken up for grades. It is up to the student as to whether they want to complete it.

Projects:

Projects will be assigned throughout the school year. Each project will be thoroughly discussed in class with the student. The teacher will discuss the expectations for their project and how it will be graded. Students will receive a due date when the project is initially assigned. It is the student's job to ensure their project is completed on time. Projects are to be completed independently outside of class. Students will not be guaranteed class time to work on projects.

Items needed for class:

Pencil(s)

Pen(s) (black or blue ONLY)

  • Assignments that are completed in any other pen color will not be graded and will receive an automatic zero. These assignments will not be able to be made up.
  • Students may use colorful pens for their notebook notes.

Absent/ Makeup Work:

When students are absent from school, they are responsible for all missed work and assignments. Students should check the absent box for any assignments they may have missed. Students have 5 days to turn in all missing daily assignments. If a test/lab was missed, student needs to schedule a makeup day with their teacher. Projects will be due on the original date assigned. If a student is absent the day a project is due, it is due the next day they return to school. The teacher has the discretion to grant a longer period to makeup work if there are extenuating circumstances.

Late Work:

Homework must be completed the night that it is due. There will be no late grades for homework.

Projects must be turned in the day they are due during the student's class period. If a project is not turned in on time, there will be a 15-point deduction for every day that it is late.

Daily Assignments must be turned in by the end of class. If they are turned in by the end of the day, they are considered late. Every day that an assignment is late, the student will be deducted 10 points.

Test Corrections:

Test Corrections are allowed for half credit up to a 70%. Students must complete test corrections on the tutoring days that are assigned. If a student cannot make those days, they need to discuss with the teacher a time and date that will work for them both.

Extra Credit:

Extra Credit is given at the discretion of the teacher. Students should not rely on extra credit to save their grade.

The only extra credit that is guaranteed is for those students whose grades end in a 9 at the end of the grading period. There will be an extra credit opportunity offered to every student whose grade ends in a 9 to have their grade bumped to the next letter grade. Again, grades are earned in this class and not given. If students do not complete the extra credit assignment, their grade will remain as it was and will not be bumped.

Cheating:

There is a zero-tolerance policy for cheating in this classroom. Students who are caught cheating will receive an automatic zero. There are zero exceptions. If a student is caught cheating, there will be no makeup work assigned for that assignment/ test. Students who are caught cheating are also ineligible to receive extra credit for the remainder of that grading period.

Phones:

Phones are not to be used in the classroom; this includes air pods. Students are expected to stay off their phone while in class unless they have permission to use it.

First Violation= warning

Second Violation= teacher will keep phone for the rest of the period

Phones will be collected on test days. Students will turn their phone in upon arriving to class and collect them as they leave.
