This is the general ideas and concepts that will be touched upon this year during Algebra 2. Time listed is a tentative schedule but will be modified at the teacher discretion.

Unit 01: Introduction to Functions in Algebra II

This unit bundles student expectations that address an introductory exploration of the parent functions covered in Algebra II, attributes of functions including domain and range, and inverses of functions. Concepts are incorporated into both mathematical and real-world problem situations. According to the Texas Education Agency, mathematical process standards including application, tools and techniques, communication, representations, relationships, and justifications should be integrated (when applicable) with content knowledge and skills so that students are prepared to use mathematics in everyday life, society, and the workplace.

Unit 02: Absolute Value Functions, Equations, and Inequalities

This unit bundles student expectations that address transformations, characteristics, and applications of absolute value functions. Absolute value equations and inequalities are solved in mathematical problems. Absolute value equations are formulated for real-world problem situations, solved, and solutions justified in terms of the situation. Concepts are incorporated into both mathematical and real-world problem situations. According to the Texas Education Agency, mathematical process standards including application, tools and techniques, communication, representations, relationships, and justifications should be integrated (when applicable) with content knowledge and skills so that students are prepared to use mathematics in everyday life, society, and the workplace.

Unit 03: Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities

This unit bundles student expectations that address formulating and solving systems of three linear equations in three variables and systems of at least two linear inequalities in two variables. Concepts are incorporated into both mathematical and real-world problem situations. Unit 04: Expressions, Factoring, and Equations with Rational Exponents

This unit bundles student expectations that address characteristics of polynomials, simplification of polynomials using rules of exponents, and application of polynomial operations to problem situations. Student expectations also address equations with rational exponents. Concepts are incorporated into both mathematical and real-world problem situations. Unit 05: Quadratic Relations, Equations, and Inequalities

This unit bundles student expectations that address writing equations of parabolas given various characteristics; writing quadratic functions given three points; formulating, solving, and determining the reasonableness of solutions to a system of equations consisting of a linear equation and a quadratic equation; and solving quadratic equations and inequalities. Concepts are incorporated into both mathematical and real-world problem situations. Unit 13: Exploring a Business Venture

This is a project-based unit where students apply bundled student expectations that address collecting, representing, and analyzing data to develop a platform for a business venture in order to make predictions and defend decisions in terms of the business situation. According to the Texas Education Agency, mathematical process standards including application, tools and techniques, communication, representations, relationships, and justifications should be integrated (when applicable) with content knowledge and skills so that students are prepared to use mathematics in everyday life, society, and the workplace.
