LESSON PLANS:

Most assignments will ALWAYS be better in class. On the occasions when school is closed, I will post alternative forms of each experiment.

DAY DATE ASSIGNMENT Learning Goals LOCATION
1 8/10 Introductions, Names, Rules
2 8/11 Can You smell Parkinson's? - Introducing Stats Introduces students to what statistics is ALL about Canvas
3 8/12 1.1
  • Identify the individuals and variables in a set of data.

  • Classify variables as categorical or quantitative.

  • Make and interpret bar graphs for categorical data.

  • Identify what makes some graphs of categorical data misleading.

  • Calculate marginal and joint relative frequencies from a two-way table.

  • Calculate conditional relative frequencies from a two-way table.

  • Use bar graphs to compare distributions of categorical data.

  • Describe the nature of the association between two categorical variables.

Canvas
4 8/13 1.2
  • Make and interpret dot plots, stemplots, and histograms of quantitative data.

  • Identify the shape of a distribution from a graph.

  • Describe the overall pattern (shape, center, and variability) of a distribution and identify any major departures from the pattern (outliers).

  • Compare distributions of quantitative data using dot plots, stemplots, and histograms.

Canvas
5 8/14 Quiz 1 Quiz over sections 1.1 and 1.2 Canvas
6 8/17 1.3 Part 1
  • Calculate measures of center (mean, median) for a distribution of quantitative data.

  • Calculate and interpret measures of variability (range, standard deviation, IQR) for a distribution of quantitative data.

  • Explain how outliers and skewness affect measures of center and variability.

Canvas
7 8/18 1.3 Part 2
  • Make and interpret boxplots of quantitative data.

  • Identify outliers using the 1.5 X IQR rule.

  • Use boxplots and numerical summaries to compare distributions of quantitative data.

Quiz over 1.3

Free Response AP Practice YAY! This practice is to help with the FRQ's on the AP Exam. Most students are intimidated by this. This will help become more familliar with the format.

Ch 1 Test

Test over Ch. 1 Canvas
11 8/24 2.1 Day 1
  • Find and interpret the percentile of an individual value in a distribution of data.

  • Estimate percentiles and individual values using a cumulative relative frequency graph.

Canvas
12 8/25 2.1 Day 2
  • Find and interpret the standardized score (z-score) of an individual value in a distribution of data.

  • Describe the effect of adding, subtracting, multiplying by, or dividing by a constant on the shape, center, and variability of a distribution of data.

Quiz 3

FRAPPY 2

Quiz over 2.1 Canvas
14 8/27 2.2 Day 1
  • Use a density curve to model distributions of quantitative data.

  • Identify the relative locations of the mean and median of a distribution from a density curve.

  • Use the 68–95–99.7 rule to estimate (i) the proportion of values in a specified interval, or (ii) the value that corresponds to a given percentile in a Normal distribution.

BASIC INFO:

The AP Statistic course introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. There are four themes evident in the content, skills, and assessment in the AP Stats course: exploring data, sampling and experimenting, probability and simulation, and statistical inferences. Students use technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing as they build conceptual understanding.

SUPPLIES: 3 ring binder and two different colored writing utensil. An account with apcentral.collegeboard.org is also needed.

Although not necessary, there is an AP test prep book that has been highly recommended to me by other teachers. Click this LinkLinks to an external site. to be taken to this study guide.

GRADING POLICY: Daily Grades(35%): homework, notes, in-class assignments, and quizzes.  Major Grades (65%): tests, projects, polished drafts

TEXTBOOK: The Practice of Statistics 6th edition by Starnes and Tabor.

We will utilize https://www.statsmedic.com and https://www.collegeboard.org/ Links to an external site.
